ABB Customer World – Australia

15 March 2018, Melbourne Convention Centre

From Innovation to Transformation

About

Digital transformation

From the world’s biggest internet user base, to the increasingly wide adoption of intelligent manufacturing equipment, to the latest in renewable energy integration technologies, digital transformation is becoming a driving force for the industrial upgrading and productivity enhancement of Australian companies.

Energy transformation

Australia’s electricity market is the longest geographically connected power system in the world. It generates around 200 terawatt hours of electricity annually – about 80% of Australia’s electricity consumption. With a focus on energy affordability, reliability, security and sustainability, new technologies and renewables will significantly shift the dial on how Australia provides energy supplies in the future.

ABB Customer World 2018 brings together professionals from utilities, industries, transport and infrastructure for a premier educational and collaboration event at the Melbourne Convention Centre, Australia. We’ve built an event experience to deliver you an innovative look at new ideas, trends and technologies that will impact the way your company moves forward in a rapidly changing business landscape.

Throughout the day and at the evening ‘cocktail reception’, connect and collaborate with peers, industry leaders, ABB’s experts and technology partners.

Agenda Highlights

Morning Sessions

Writing the digital future takes ability.

ABB Ability™ is our unified, cross-industry digital capability – extending from device to edge to cloud – with devices, systems, solutions, services and a platform that enable our customers to know more, do more, do better, together.

ABB Ability connects our customers to the power of the Industrial Internet of Things and, through our services and expertise, goes further by turning data insights into the direct action that ‘closes the loop’ and generates customer value in the physical world.

Transforming electricity networks

How to achieve 50% renewables energy without comprising grid stability

Australia’s National Electricity Market is the longest geographically connected power system in the world. It generates around 200 terawatt hours of electricity annually – about 80% of Australia’s electricity consumption. With a focus on energy affordability, reliability, security and sustainability, new technologies and renewables will significantly shift the dial on how Australia provides energy supplies in the future.

This key plenary session will provide a lively debate about how to achieve 50 percent renewable energy without compromising grid stability. The session will initiate a discussion about the policy setting, the role of technologies and behavioural change needed to deliver affordable, reliable energy and help Australia grow its economy and meet its international commitments to emission reduction.

Afternoon – Concurrent Workshops

workshop-power

Utilities: Improve asset performance and grid resilience – going digital

Electricity and water transmission and distribution grid operators now have a serious challenge of improving operational performance against a backdrop of ageing assets, ageing workforce and increased customer and stakeholder expectations. This has resulted in them taking up digital transformation as a critical business process within the organisation.

This workshop explores initiatives and solutions that help utilities tread their digital transformation journey.

workshop-mining1

Mine of the future, today

In the new age of digitalisation, ABB is at the forefront of the world’s most exciting technological advances in mining control systems and remote operations, thanks to our ABB Ability™ digital offering.

In this workshop, ABB will share its experience designing and delivering an automated truckless mine which has the lowest cost per tonne in South America. We will also outline how a similar ABB Ability automated solution has improved productivity and created the most efficient underground mine in Europe. These fully automated operating mines demonstrate that the digital mine of the future is here, now.

workshop-manufact

How ABB Ability™ can address rising production costs and help increase throughput in the Food & Beverage sector

Price competitiveness and customer responsiveness are critical to Australian and New Zealand food and beverage manufacturers to retain their premium position in export and domestic markets.

Food and beverage manufacturers need to re-evaluate and optimise all aspects of their facilities, to reduce energy consumption, and increase productivity along their value chains.

This practically focused workshop will explore the latest ABB Ability™ solutions that help manufacturers address rising energy costs, improve productivity and manage information effectively.

workshop-monitor

The digital services revolution is here – collaborate, predict and optimise 24/7

What does the Fourth Industrial Revolution mean to your assets and operations and the way they are operated, serviced and maintained? What does it look like to move from traditional services, like reactive breakdown and preventative maintenance, to a world where all equipment, systems and devices are securely connected globally 24/7?

Let us show you how we have integrated traditional services that industry is familiar with to the ‘future of service’ that is now available via ABB Ability™.

workshop-ability

Grid stabilisation – enabling the energy transformation to a low carbon electricity supply system

As renewable energy penetration increases, both utility scale and decentralised, integrating these new distributed energy resources into the energy market becomes more critical, to ensure that the power system remains reliable, and network investments are optimised.

This workshop will examine scenarios on how to achieve 50% renewable energy contribution, and the implications for grid stability.

Participants will be able to contribute and learn the value proposition of different energy storage systems, and understand the role that microgrids will play in resolving the Finkel trilemma.

workshop-transport

Making sustainable transport go further

Across transportation sectors, operators are struggling with how to optimise asset management given what are often isolated systems and data storage.

ABB Ability™ provides the services and solutions that integrate systems on land, sea and air. From collaborative operations to remote monitoring, motion forecasting and energy management, ABB Ability enables transport providers to know more do more, do better, together.

workshop-building-intell

Standardisation of building automation controls in the digital age

2018 will see the introduction of the Australian and New Zealand Technical Specification SA/SNZ TS ISO/IEC 14543.3, a direct text adoption of the International Standard. This will provide a reference of a building automation specification for the first time in Australia and New Zealand.

ABB i-bus® KNX ensures compliance with this new Technical Specification, allowing true convergence of various building controls to provide an optimum solution of energy management, energy efficiency, occupant safety and comfort.

This workshop will explore how the new technical specification will assist building designers to achieve the best solution for a building’s automation control requirements.
